Welcome to the Mojo Orkz!

Thanks for taking a look at the Mojos...a couple of notes...

These first pictures of the Mojos are my first painting attempts, along with my first work with the new camera (Nikon D90) so I haven't yet mastered the close up shots or the photo editing. Also these Unit 1 is about 99% complete - I haven't finished basing them yet, there's no decals at all, and I haven't sprayed them down with purity seal (varnish) yet.

But I'm pretty happy with them at the moment, especially for my first painting attempt :)

I hope to have Unit 1 finished up this week, and I have already purchased Units 2 and 3 of the Alpha Boyz (which will complete Alpha Boyz Squad), along with Unit 1 of the Gretchins, so my goal is to have Alpha Boyz completed before February.

Each Boyz Squad consists (at least at the current organizational chart), of 26 'regular' Boyz (with choppa and slugga), 3 Big Shoota Boyz, and 1 Nob. Taking one step down the chart then, each 10 Ork unit consists of 8 Boyz, 1 big shoota, and 1 Nob. Baker Boyz Squad has the same layout of 24/3/3, but the regular Boyz carry shootas (instead of choppas and sluggas) and Baker Squad acts primarily as fire support for the advancing ranks. The entire Ork platoon (in this case Green Platoon) of the Mojo Waaaagh is lead by a Warboss, with his bodyguards, usually a retinue of 10 Nobz.

Nobz

Nobz are the ruling caste of any Ork Klanz. Such recognition of nobility comes not by birth or wealth, but by size and sheer belligerence. The only Ork bigger and badder than a Nob is a Warboss, and the Nobz delight in reminding the smaller Orks of this fact with their fists and iron boots.

Nobz form together into groups of battle-hardened veterans that act as a retinue of bodyguards for their Warboss, while other Nobz like to lead mobs of lesser Orks who they can boss and bully around as they please. Often such Nobz will run headlong into battle, plunging into the thick of the fighting and breaking skulls left, right, and center. In this way Nobz act as seargent-at-arms, champions, oppressors, and role models for the Boyz they lead.

Often this is demonstrated in the Nob penchant for cruel, and often casual, violence. Nobz are arrogant in the extreme and have the muscle to back it up. They love truly powerful guns, and can afford much-feared kombi-weapons, big shootas, chain-bladed choppas, and piston-driven power klaws.

Trukks

Some Boyz (and Nobz and Warbosses) are addicted to speed. They are also usually addicted to smashing in heads, so they often ride to war in lightweight vehicles so they can get into the thick of the fighting as quickly as possible. These trukks are built for speed and speed alone, and usually have very little in the way of armor. A direct hit on an Ork Trukk can cause it to come apart in a clattering, cartwheeling pile of burning wreckage. Still, because they are so light it is easy to bail out of the open-topped troop transports when they crash.

Because Orks are so inventive, no two trucks are ever the same, though they usually have a large, loud engine that belches black exhaust and a large flatbed enclosure that can accommodate a goodly amount of Orks and also allow them to shoot out from any vantage point (and to bail the hell out when the ramshackle trukk comes apart at the seams). Often skulls, jagged plates, and spikes adorn the trukk like trophies, and rails and runners abound for the Boyz to hang on for the ride.

Trukks also often come with a red paint job, as the innate psychic ability of the Orks comes to play here. Basically, if an Ork truly believes that a red paint job makes a trukk go faster, it will. No one has really ever been able to explain this...it just works that way. Trukks also are seen with boarding planks for making daring attacks on other vehicles, grot riggers that swarm out to repair battle damage on the spot, reinforced battering rams to make the truck a weapon in itself by 'tank shocking' enemy troops by literally running into them, and wreckin' balls that the Ork crew delights in smashing the great spiked terrifying things into infantry and enemy vehicles.

Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun

Ork Meks like to take to the battlefield armed with their favorite invention. This is often a heavy and improbably complicated gun that crackles with barely harnessed power, such as the Shokk Attack Gun, a bizarre device capable of opening holes in the very fabric of the material universe. This awesome power is not used to advance science or revolutionize travel, but to fire warp-crazed Snotlings into the enemy.

The Shokk Attack Gun projects a narrow force field tunnel through a small portion of the warp. How it manages this is a mystery to anyone other than the Mek who built it, but the destructive potential of such a technological monster is considerable. The entrance to this tunnel opens up at the front of the gun and the exit point is created wherever the operator aims it. It is possible, in fact encouraged (though usually not willingly), for living creatures to travel down the tunnel and leave it at the exit point.

Unfortunately it is fairly common for the complex device to fail, resulting in a rather messy death of those inside the field when it implodes. Even if it does work correctly, the trip down the tunnel is extremely disturbing, for those that make the journey are surrounded on all sides by the horrific daemonic creatures that live in the warp. Because of this, no Ork in his right mind would go into the tunnel created by the Shokk Attack Gun. Gretchin, being a bit smarter than Orks, usually tend to disappear whenever the distinctive whine of a Shokk Attack Gun pierces the air.

Snotlings however are not quite as bright, possessing at best an animal level of intelligence. These Snotlings (and the occasional Squig) are gathered up by the Mek and vacuumed into the Shokk Attack Gun and then fired through the warp. During the journey they are driven out of their tiny minds, as the nightmarish journey through the twisted seas of unreality drives the Snotlings into a frenzy, and they emerge scrabbling, clawing, biting, and defecating uncontrollably.

The Mek then does his best to place the exit hole in the exact location of the enemy soldiery, sometimes actually inside the enemy's armor. This can cause havoc in an enemy vehicle and catastrophic trauma in enemy troopers, as the sudden materialization of the crazed Snotlings ripping the hell out of everything around them makes the Shokk Attack Gun one of the deadliest weapons in the Ork arsenal.

Stormboyz

Stormboyz are the shock troops of the warband. They share the orkish desire to get into battle as quickly as possible, and to this end they go to war strapped to rokkit packs that, when activated, propel their wearers forward on great tongues of oily black flame. This usually makes them the first in a battle to get stuck in.

Flying into battle is usually seen as undignified to most Orks, but even the oldest Orks realize that airborne nutcases are invaluable when attacking enemy bastions and defense lines. After all, a hurtling great lump of rocket-powered Ork can be a very effective weapon in itself.

Unfortunately for the Stormboyz, the volatile jump packs are anything but reliable - and any Ork worth his teef finds the sight of a malfunctioning rokkit pack as amusing as the next Ork. It is a common sight to see a Stormboy corkscrewing into the distance of ploughing into the ground, much to the ground, much to the entertainment of his comrades. Stormboy doctrine is very much a case of pull the lever, shout 'Ere we go!' and hope for the best...
